Arnold Air Society Candidacy

“Some individuals chose the road less traveled, the road that pushes one’s heart, one’s soul, and one’s mind to its limits in hopes of one day conquering one’s most inner fears. But, to the dismay of some, others choose the easy road, a road that is free from challenge, free from heartache, and free from stress. Those cadets who choose to participate in Arnold Air Candidacy program not only chose the road less travel, but the road that was full of obstacles to be conquered. The candidacy program challenge and forced five lonely souls, to break out of them selves and learn to act as one. No longer thinking of one's own needs, desires, and wants but relinquishing all that was dear to them in a quest to become a team that knew no self."

Candidacy Spring 2008

During the Spring 2008 semester the Arnold Air Society will be holding a Candidacy Program to provide an opportunity for those who desire to obtain membership within the Society. Participation in the Candidacy Program does not necessarily guarantee membership.

For those who are completely unfamiliar with what AAS is, it is a service oriented organization, unlike Greek Fraternities/Sororities we have both male and female members within our organization. While the Candidacy process is similar to pledging in that you are trying out, the program that you will go through is completely unique. Every aspect of the Candidacy Process is centered around developing and training you to further better yourself as a person, a leader, and as an Officer.

Another benefit of participating in the Candidacy Program is the level of training you will be receiving that can help you prepare yourself for Field Training. This is an advantage to any ROTC Cadet but it is a particularly beneficial opportunity for those AS 200's who have only been in ROTC for one year or maybe even one semester.

The Candidacy Process generally lasts the majority of the semester (although you may not have a Candidacy Board every week) with the successful Candidates gaining membership and being inducted into the Society in a ceremony in front of the entire Cadet Wing. Candidacy Boards are typically Saturday mornings although in cases where there are large and widespread scheduling conflicts there have been occasions in the past where Candidacy Boards are held on Fridays after LLab.

Overall it is simply an opportunity that one can either choose to utilize to better themselves or choose not to use if they should so see fit.
